The club finished 13th in the Championship in the 2014/15 season, one of their best performances in a few years but the new owners of the club have decided to look at a new direction for the upcoming season and will now be looking for a new manager with names in the hat including Mark Warburton, Paul Lambert and Slavisa Jokanovic.
Club Chairman Dejphon Chansiri old the official SWFC site “This is not a decision I have taken lightly but one that I believe is in the best interests of our club ahead of the 2015-16 season.
“The club will be taking a new direction next season and it is my belief that the appointment of a new head coach will help achieve my desire of bringing Premier League football back to Hillsborough.
“I would like to thank Stuart for his hard work and diligence on behalf of Sheffield Wednesday and wish him all the very best moving forward.”
Gray is renowned as a top coach and since his appointment after the sacking of Dave Jones in January 2014, has brough a sense of stability to the club, often called one of the sleeping giants of English football.
