Australian captain Chris Holder believes that his side have the ability to win their first championship since 2002 after winning at King’s Lynn in Event 2.
The Aussies recorded 47 points, finishing four points ahead of Team Great Britain, to book their place in the final at Vojens on Saturday.
Team GB, led by British champion Tai Woffinden, will compete in Thursday’s play-offs against Poland, Russia and USA, who ended the evening on 22 points.
Despite Team GB giving the Aussies a good battle, Jason Doyle’s 13 points and debutant Nick Morris’ 12 showed the Aussies threat, with Batchelor and Holder recording 11 points each.
Holder said: “We haven’t won for a little while, so we are due one hopefully. If we go there and do something on Saturday, we’ll be pretty happy.
“We have the team to do it – it comes down to what happens on the day. We have to make it happen. Vojens is a tricky track. It can be slick, but there can also be a lot of dirt on it.”
Team GB boss Alun Rossiter was proud of the effort his team displayed, battling with the Aussies all the way to heat 19.
Britain will be confident heading into the playoffs, with ‘Bomber’ and ‘Woffy’ both scoring 13.
World champion Greg Hancock kept the American dream alive, scoring 12 points in a disappointing USA performance. Despite that, this will be the third successive year the USA have reached the world’s top six.
The draw for the SWC Race Off at Vojens on Thursday is as follows: The USA will be in red, with Poland in blue. Russia will be in white, whilst Team GB complete the line-up in yellow.
