Whilst European teams embark on another bout of qualifying matches, South American sides have their thoughts turned to this year’s Copa America, where the continent’s heavy-weights go head to head for glory in Chile.
The Copa America is typically one of the more under-stated international competitions, with many viewers believing the quality of football on show to be sub-standard at times, with the pre-tournament favourites often faltering early on in the competition. However, whilst not the greatest demonstration of world-class football at times, Copa America tends to encapsulate what fans love about South American football: technical flair, attacking mindsets, irrational defending – something which compromises the quality of football, but adds excitement and interest to viewer’s – and some of the greatest players on earth.
Here at ‘The Sports Lowdown’, our writer Dan Culyer takes a definitive look at the Copa America, and analyses the team most likely to win, which teams will struggle and which teams which could spring the surprise result. We will also take a look at some of the player’s to keep an eye on in the competition, and explain why Copa America 2015 is one well worth watching.
