FIFA have made the decision to delay the process for the bidding of the 2026 World Cup amid the allegations over the 2018 and 2022 World Cups in Russia and Qatar.
The decision to pick the hosts of the 2026 World Cup was due to be made in May 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia but the vote has been put on hold with the chaos surrounding the bribery scandal that has emerged in wake of the FIFA Presidntial elections that saw the resignation of Sepp Blatter last week.
With possible financial irregularities involving the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, there are rumours that if bribes have been made to secure both these events, the host countries could be stripped of the right to host the tournament and a new bidding process opened.
With little time to the 2018 World Cup, Russia are likely to stay as hosts in 2018 even if it emerges the scandal involves them but Qatar 2022, with the problems it is already facing in light of the move to a winter World Cup causing fury amongst many nations and the continued rise of migrant deaths in the country, we could yet see the process re-ran.
America are thought to be the favourites to host the 2026 World Cup though they will face a battle from other countries on the continent including Mexico and Colombia.
