1. Do Chelsea need another striker
We all know that Diego Costa is the main man when it comes to smashing in the goals for the Blues but his injury record is a concern and though they have arguably the most exciting set of midfielders in the country (Some will say Arsenal do), can they replicate the goals if Costa goes down to a long term injury.
They have brought in Radamel Falcao in the off-season but after seeing how he performed last season, the jury remains out on whether he will ever be able to replicate his form, pre that shocking injury he sustained. If he can then, Chelsea may have a bargain on their hands. If he can’t, Loic Remy won’t inspire the fear that Costa does, so should Chelsea change philosophy and look to go two up front and head out into the transfer market before it shuts at the end of the month?
2. Are they stale and bland
You might think we are mad, but there is a systematic approach to this madness and we think Chelsea might need a bit of fun pumped into them. Obviously having Eden Hazard and his footballing wizardry on hand, you’d laugh this comment off but they don’t always have that sense of being able to rip sides apart with the most sublime bit of football you often see from Arsenal. Yes the Gunners fail in other area’s which is their downfall, and the reason why Chelsea don’t fail.
Jose Mourinho sides are conspicuous by their level composure and ability to grind the opposition down. They can be flashy and expansive but often they are calculated and ruthless, a staple of a Mourinho side. However we have been down this road before, with owner Roman Abramovich wanting to see a style of play that brings both excitement and trophies. Mourinho sides pick up trophies, but sometimes its painful to watch them and sometimes it is an absolute joy!
3. Swansea City and others will peak against them
Chelsea have set the standard and they now have a target on their backs, which is why they need to keep adapting as they go along. They were rather unfortunate to play Swansea first up, who are renowned for picking up points in games against the top sides and arguably have a method against the top teams. Other teams will be the same, they will have to work out plans to combat Chelsea’s style of play.
But as mentioned earlier, this is Jose Mourinho and you won’t see the ‘Special One’ panic, he will adapt and evolve and it will be very meticulous and very minimalistic and he will work out what to do quickly. Chelsea are still the industry standard in the Premier League and they will be for a while yet. But they will need to work out if they sit and wait for the pack to catch them or continue to slowly evolve, that sees them continue to etch further ahead of the rest of the sides. A signing or two wouldn’t go amiss.
