Arsenal summer transfer target Karim Benzema has revealed he was never seriously thinking of leaving Real Madrid for a move to the Premier League.

The striker was rumoured to be a long standing target of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger but with the summer transfer window nearing an end, the trail went quiet over the France international.

With the Gunners needing to add firepower to their ranks as they looked to immerse themselves in a Premier League title tilt, Benzema was identified as the ideal target and rumours of a huge bid persisted all summer but speaking to Telefoot, Benzema said “There was nothing in the talk of a transfer away from Madrid.

“I’m happy at my current club, it’s the best in the world.I’ll continue to work here and be happy where I am.”

Benzema has already opened his account in La Liga this season with a goal in the 5-0 drubbing of Real Betis and the Frenchman looks set to continue to play alongside such world stars as Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Sergio Ramos.
