Eden Hazard and Christian Benteke have come in for some fierce criticism from Belgium national coach Marc Wilmots after their display in the 1-0 win over Cyprus, despite Hazard securing the goal that puts them in line to qualify for Euro 2016.
The Chelsea winger has had a difficult start to the Premier League season and has not hit the heights of previous seasons and it seems to be rubbing off for his country with Wilmots blasting both Hazard and the Liverpool striker Christian Benteke for their performances.
Hazard scored the only goal of the game with just minutes remaining but Wilmots said after the match “He (Hazard) was the worst tonight. I thought about substituting him, but in the last 10 minutes he always has the ability to do that. At the World Cup, this was the case.
“I obviously expect more from him, but he will grow as the season progresses.”
Benteke was hauled off at half time in the match in Nicosia and Wilmots when asked about the substitution said that the Liverpool striker had only put in a half-performance and he needed to get the player out of the side.
