This week in the NFL see’s the 1st of 3 matches that are to be played at Wembley Stadium in London this season. The New York Jets will play the Miami Dolphins this week and it will be a great start to the International series as the AFC East game comes to town.

The Jets have never played in the International series before this match where as this will be the 3rd appearance for the Dolphins. They played in the very 1st International series against the Patriots in 2007 then they played the Raiders last year.

In this match pack you will find everything that you need to know about both teams. From their history to their 1st team players, after you have read this you will know what is going on.

Background to the match

Miami Dolphins

This team is based in Miami,Florida and play their home games at the Sun Life Stadium. They play in a aqua blue home Jersey with white shorts with their away kit being them colours but reversed.  They are currently in the AFC East division alongside the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots.

They have appeared in the Superbowl 5 time and have won it twice in 1972 and 1973. They have also been in the play-offs 22 times since they were founded in 1966. The “Golden era” for the Dolphins was the “Marino era”, in which the NFL was dominated by quarterback Dan Marino.

They haven’t done so well in recent years though as their last play-off appearance and AFC East Division win was in 2008. This is because of the rise of Tom Brady as a leading NFL quarterback meaning that the Patriots have won the AFC East many times in the last few years.

New York Jets

This team is based in East Rutherford,New Jersey which is close to New York, and play their home games at the Metlife Stadium. They play in a dark green and white Jersey with white shorts with their away kit having the colours reversed. They also play in the AFC East division alongside the Dolphins, Bills and Patriots.

They have only had 1 Superbowl appearance in which they won it in 1968. They have only had 1 conference win which was in 1968 but this was when it was split into the NFL and AFL and they won the AFL championship. They have had 14 play-off appearances and have won the AFC/AFL East division 4 times. Their “Golden Era” was during the 1960’s and 70’swhen Joe Namath was quarterback and led them to 2 play-off’s and a Superbowl win.

Their last play-off appearance was in 2010 and their last AFC East division title was in 2002. However they do seem to have found their feet in the last year so a play-off berth is very possible this year for the Jets.
