Assessing the Premier League top six

Manchester City

Having a poor season by their standards has opened the eyes of Manuel Pellegrini that improvements must be made quickly. With FFP (Financial Fair Play) restrictions being cooled down, it may allow Manchester City to delve into their war-chest of money and spend big to bring in world class players that could fire them towards the title next season.

City failed to keep hold of James Milner as he turned down a new deal in favour of joining Liverpool, where he was guaranteed a first-team place in his favourable centre-midfield position. However the Citizens have made two consecutive bids – which have both been rejected – for Liverpool’s highly-rated 20-year-old winger, Raheem Sterling. Liverpool are holding out for £50m but City are reluctant to match it at the moment, things could change though as Manchester City need to add English players to their squad to apply with Champions League and Premier League guidelines. Manchester City have also been linked heavily with signing Juventus midfielder, Paul Pogba, who would no doubt add great technique and power into their midfield.

Predicted finish – 3rd
